The current illegal immigration crisis is putting a stranglehold on government services, threatening our national security and jeopardizing our safety. The American Issues Project supports legislative initiatives that stop granting American privileges to illegal immigrants, especially when legal U.S. citizens are being denied. Rewarding illegal behavior sends the wrong message to legal immigrants who follow the law and are on the path to legal citizenship.  

There are several steps we believe must be taken to begin to put an end to our immigration crisis: 

• First and foremost, secure our border by completing the border fence
• Ensure there are enough border patrol agents monitoring the border
• Employ the most up-to-date surveillance available to monitor the border
• Enforce the laws we already have on the books
• Develop a high-tech and reliable employment verification system
• Punish employers who repeatedly and defiantly hire illegal immigrants
