American Energy Independence

American Issues Project supports and will encourage energy policies that are pro-America. We have an abundance of energy resources right here in our country, and yet we import nearly 60% of the crude oil and petroleum products we use, often from countries that are hostile to our way of life, like Iran and Venezuela.

There are several efforts we must undertake to release ourselves from the grip of foreign oil. We need to harness solar, wind and nuclear power and other emerging technologies and reward businesses that invest in these alternative energy sources. But this alone is not enough. We need to increase our domestic production by allowing exploration and drilling offshore and in ANWR. We also need to pursue oil shale and coal-to-liquid fuel, which could provide more than 100 years of energy.

Our very security depends on our becoming energy independent, and American Issues Project strongly supports efforts to this end.
