America was built on strong family values. It is part of the fiber of our nation. And it sets us apart from the world. But these values have come under assault in recent years by the Hollywood elite, the media, and activist judges. The American Issues Project believes we must unite and stand strong in defense of traditional American family values. Since the Supreme Court decided Roe v. Wade more than thirty years ago, over 45 million babies have been legally aborted in the United States. 45 million. That’s more babies than the population of New York and Texas combined. The American Issues Project supports protecting life at every stage of development: from conception until natural death, and legislative efforts that do the same. Activist judges in Massachusetts and more recently California have thwarted the will of the people and have sanctioned same-sex marriage. The American Issues Project stands steadfast in its support of marriage as the union of one man and one woman, nothing more. Attempts to alter the definition of marriage not only go against traditional American values, but go against the very bedrock of civilization. Judicial activism has given us abortion on demand, gay marriage, and has even attempted to strike “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance. The American Issues Project strongly supports judicial candidates in the mold of Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, Justice Samuel Alito, Justice Antonin Scalia, Justice Clarence Thomas, Judge Janice Rogers Brown and Judge Priscilla Owen. We cannot allow our courts to legislate from the bench and defy our founding fathers and the will of the American people. |

Jumpstarting the American Economy |
|
Wednesday, 20 August 2008 |
|
The best way to jumpstart the U.S. economy is to provide tax relief to families and businesses. Tax increases will only hinder the American economic engine and result in an even more bloated federal government. The American Issues Project supports a renewed commitment to creating a pro-growth business environment that encourages and supports entrepreneurs so they can create new jobs for American workers. Among the measures to jumpstart our economy: - Extending the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts
- Opposing any attempt to raise taxes in any form
- Eliminating the death tax
- Eliminating the marriage penalty
- Eliminating wasteful government spending
- Supporting free trade
- Opposing over-regulation of American business and industry

Winning the War Against Terror |

Americans understand the consequences we will face if we do not prevail in the War against Terror. We must remain committed to achieving victory in Iraq, finishing our work in Afghanistan, and keeping a watchful eye on other dangerous regimes of the world, such as Iran, North Korea, and Cuba. The American Issues Project will strongly oppose legislation -- and inform the American public -- when politicians start advocating “surrender” as a public policy position. We support making sure our brave men and women in the field have every tool they need to get the job done. We oppose efforts to tie troop funding to special-interest pork barrel projects that result in partisan debates while our troops wait. Our armed forces deserve to have everything they need at the very moment they need it, not partisan bickering and game playing. The American Issues Project also supports ensuring law enforcement has the tools it needs to fight terrorists both at home and abroad, including warrantless wiretaps and any other measures deemed necessary to preventing another attack on our country. |

Defending the 2nd Amendment |
|
Wednesday, 20 August 2008 |
|
Americans have a constitutional right to keep and bear arms. The United States Supreme Court agrees. The American Issues Project supports the recent Supreme Court decision on the 2nd Amendment, which reaffirmed this right by overturning Washington, D.C.’s unlawful ban on gun ownership. We oppose legislative efforts that seek to infringe on 2nd Amendment rights. Although perhaps well-intentioned, efforts seeking to restrict criminals from accessing guns end up harming law-abiding gun owners, instead. According to a report by the National Center for Policy Analysis, “More crimes are prevented by guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens every year than are committed with guns.” The American Issues Project also opposes efforts to target gun manufacturers for crimes committed with guns. So long as the guns manufactured are not negligent or defective in design, the manufacturers should not be punished for their misuse. We must continue to respect the traditions that many Americans hold dear and continue to protect their rights in the future. The American Issues Project will faithfully defend the 2nd Amendment by vocally opposing efforts to infringe upon its guaranteed rights. |

The current illegal immigration crisis is putting a stranglehold on government services, threatening our national security and jeopardizing our safety. The American Issues Project supports legislative initiatives that stop granting American privileges to illegal immigrants, especially when legal U.S. citizens are being denied. Rewarding illegal behavior sends the wrong message to legal immigrants who follow the law and are on the path to legal citizenship. There are several steps we believe must be taken to begin to put an end to our immigration crisis: - First and foremost, secure our border by completing the border fence
- Ensure there are enough border patrol agents monitoring the border
- Employ the most up-to-date surveillance available to monitor the border
- Enforce the laws we already have on the books
- Develop a high-tech and reliable employment verification system
- Punish employers who repeatedly and defiantly hire illegal immigrants
America is a land of immigrants, but it is also a land of laws. We welcome legal immigrants to our country with open arms, but oppose efforts that reward illegal immigrants or let them cut to the front of the line. |
