This July 4th, we near Elizabeth City, NC will have our second Tea Party event . We are a pretty small town and I doubt CNN will cover our protest but we will take a couple of hours out of our celebration for the birth of our great nation to stand against massive government growth and the erosion of individual rights.
This will be the second national Tea Party; the first of course was on April 15th, tax day. The fact is they started long before that. Michelle Malkin has a detailed history of the grass roots origins here . Mrs. Malkin and Hot Air.com have done an outstanding job of covering these gatherings that the MSN refuses to legitimize and attribute to FOX News and other conservative backers.
As I said in my first and to date only blog post (hey I’m technologically challenged), I’ve never really been politically active aside from voting. I attended a meeting planning our July 4 protest recently and wanted to share a few topics discussed for those planning to attend an event.
Our Tea Party is from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm to allow participants to go about normal celebrations with minimal interruption. Some suggestions coming from our meeting were as follows:
-Bring a flag
-If you have a sign, make it non-partisan and mention no names. The MSN will use any sign against the administration as CNN did. As if you didn’t know, we are held to a higher standard
-If you are a vet or currently serving, wear your uniform
-get together and develop and hand out flyers that stick to the message stating what we are against not who
-After the event police the area and clean up any trash so future permits do not have a reason to be denied
The idea was floated about having politicians speak but this should be non-partisan. This is not a Democrat or Republican issue, it’s an American issue. We don’t need a repeat of this . Also, it was recommended that attendees bring a copy of the pocket Constitution available here although it will not arrive until after July 4th if requested now.
