How's this for rose colored glasses?
Over the past year, overall levels of consumer
confidence have bounced around a lot but ended up with little change.
For the full month June 2008, the Rasmussen Consumer Index was at 71.9.
In June, 2009, that number was 72:0.
But underneath those stable topline numbers is a dramatic shift
along party lines. A year ago, Republicans were far more confident than
Democrats. Today, the reverse is true.
Among Democrats, the Rasmussen Consumer Index jumped from 53.7 a year ago to 79.5 in 2009.
Among Republicans, confidence was at 99.4 a year ago and it’s fallen to 68.6 today.
Wow.
The economy is better? What? Please tell me they're kidding. The
biggest problem, however, is the rapidly rising unemployment. Go look
at Gateway Pundit for an awesome refute to this poll, but I'll give you the basics here.
Remember that stimulus? National debt has been increased by
nearly a trillion dollars as a result, and we have seen no improvement.
We were told told that it would keep unemployment below 8%. The numbers
came out recently that unemployment is at 9.5% - the highest it's been since 1983. It is predicted to hit 10% before the end of the year - words spoken by the President himself.
“I
think that what you’ve seen is that the pace of job loss has slowed,”
Mr. Obama says, “and I think that the economy is going to turn around.
But as you know, jobs are a lagging indicator. And we've got to produce
150,000 jobs every month just to keep pace.”
That
was spoken on June 16th. The pace of job loss has SLOWED? In May, there
were 322,000 jobs lost. We lost 467,000 jobs last month. That's 16,000
jobs per day since the stimulus. Is he that out of touch? Really?
I'd
wager that he knows more about the economy than that. He's trying to
create a false sense of security. And it's working. Just to be
thorough, let's look at other economic indicators. The stock market is
down 3000 points from this time last year. The budget deficit has been
effectively quadrupled by President Obama.
Apparently,
just having him in office is enough to make Democrats feel secure about
the state of our economy. So much for those silly facts and figures.
